  44.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA
  45.         Windows NT driver software for your graphics board.

  57.         The directory with the ELSA graphics driver for Windows NT
  58.         contains the following files:
  59.         
  60.         ELSA.INF              script file for the installation
  61.         DISK1
  62.         LIESMICH.TXT          German version of the file README.TXT
  63.         README.TXT            the file you are currently reading
  64.         I386\EEIIM.SY_        miniport driver (compressed)
  65.         I386\EEIID.DL_        display driver (compressed)

  70. 3       Installation       
  71.  
  72.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality under
  73.               Windows NT 4.0 only!
  74.  
  75. 3.1     Installation of the ELSA graphics driver
  76.  
  77.         NOTE: First install the Standard-VGA driver, then shut down
  78.               your computer and exchange the graphics board with
  79.               the ERAZOR II.
  80.  
  81.         In the Taskbar/Start/Settings, click on "Control Panel" and
  82.         then select "Display Properties". Alternatively, you can
  83.         right-click the desktop and in the appearing popup menu,
  84.         select "Properties". Select "Settings" and then "Display
  85.         Type". In the upcoming window you can use the "Change"
  86.         button to select your ELSA graphics board. You will get the
  87.         "Change Display" dialog box with a variety of available
  88.         drivers.
  89.  
  90.         On the lower right-hand of the dialog box select the button
  91.         "Other...". The dialog "Install from disk" appears with an
  92.         indication of path or floppy drive ("A:\"). Change the
  93.         entry to the path where the driver files for your board are
  94.         located (e.g."D:\ERAZOR2\WINNT40") and confirm with
  95.         "Continue". Now a list of ELSA graphics drivers is
  96.         displayed. Select the driver for your board. Confirm the
  97.         dialog. The driver is installed after confirming the
  98.         warning that a third-party driver will be installed.
  99.  
  100.         NOTE: Under Windows NT 4.0, graphics drivers cannot be
  101.               loaded dynamically. This is a limitation of the
  102.               operating system.
  103.  
  104.         To activate the ELSA driver the computer has to be
  105.         restarted. Please press >>Yes<< in the relevant dialog.
  106.         The system will reboot and the initial installation is
  107.         finished.
  108.  
  109.         The initial installation of ELSA drivers for Microsoft
  110.         Windows NT 4.0 installs the driver in a resolution of
  111.         640*480 pixel at 60Hz refresh.
  112.  
  113.         NOTE:   With the installation of the Windows NT 4.0 driver,
  114.                 the ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed.

  116. 3.2     Making Installation Disks
  117.  
  118.         To create installation disks for the ELSA graphics driver
  119.         you will need an empty floppy disk labeled 
  120.         "ELSA Windows NT 4.0 DISK 1".
  121.         Copy the files from the according graphics board directory
  122.         on the driver CD-ROM to the prepared disk.

  124. 3.3     Testing the Installation and Determining the Driver Version
  125.         Number
  126.  
  127. 3.3.1   Testing the Installation
  128.  
  129.         From the Start menu, select "Settings" and in the Control
  130.         Panel launch "Display". Select the tab "Settings" and then
  131.         the button "Change configuration...". The following dialog
  132.         gives information about the manufacturer, the version
  133.         number and the current driver files.
  134.  
  135.         NOTE:   If you see "Version Information missing ", you did
  136.                 not set US English as the system language. This
  137.                 problem will appear in all non-American NT
  138.                 installations. This is a limitation of the
  139.                 operating system.
  140.  
  141. 3.3.2   Determining the Version Number of the Driver via the Driver
  142.         Files
  143.  
  144.         Use the Explorer to inspect the file properties for one of
  145.         the files EEIIM.SYS or EEIID.DLL. The file EEIIM.SYS can be
  146.         found in the directory System32\Drivers, the EEIID.DLL file
  147.         in the System32 directory of your Windows NT installation.
  148.

  151. 4       Known Problems
  152.  
  153.  
  154.         - If you do not have installed the Service Pack 3
  155.           (or higher) for NT4, AGP display cards only run in
  156.           standard VGA mode. Please install a service pack 3 or 
  157.           higher to fix this problem!
  158.  
  159.         - If you own a multi processor board with BX- or GX-
  160.           chipset you have to install the Service Pack 4.
  161.           Otherwise the system will not work correctly.
  162.  
  163.         - The display driver is installed successfully, but after
  164.           rebooting the system the driver is not activated.
  165.           Your graphics board requires an IRQ. Please assign a 
  166.           unique IRQ to the slot which is related to your graphics
  167.           board.
  168.       
  169.         - Video playback may result in pixel errors. 
  170.           Please install the Intel Indeo 5 video codec.
  171.  
  172.     - On some old Pentium Pro (TM) boards the system hangs
  173.           if you write something to floppy disk or if you play
  174.           sound files. This bug should be fixed by the manufacturer
  175.           of this board! You can temporary fix it in registry
  176.           (but slowing down the graphic):
  177.           - start the registry editor regedt32.exe
  178.           - open "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
  179.             Services\eeiim\Device0\"
  180.           - add the value "EnableWriteCombining: REG_DWORD: 0"
  181.  
  182.         - If the ELSA PCI graphics board is not recognized, try 
  183.           another PCI slot. Some mainboards have PCI slots 
  184.           which are not PCI compliant.
